Con una combinación de grabaciones de material audiovisual esta ponencia presente un breve recorrido de las carreras de tres importantes músicos panameños quién residen en Nueva York y quienes trabajaron juntos. La vocalista Enid Lowe y el saxofonista/flautista Walter “Gene” Jefferson trabajaron juntos en Panamá antes de reencontrarse en la gran manzana donde se casaron y trabajaron juntos. Frank Anderson (piano/órgano) trabajó en Panamá con varias agrupaciones y sirvió como acompañante musical de Enid Lowe antes de ir a Nueva York en 1948. Allí trabajó en espectáculos de Broadway y tocó jazz, calypso, y música latina en grabaciones y presentaciones en vivo. Para estos tres músicos su identidad y preparación como músicos en Panamá junto a su ética de trabajo les dieron éxitos en manejar muchos géneros de música y ayudó en convertirles en protagonistas integrales de la escena musical neoyorquina.

With a combination of recordings of audiovisual material, this presentation presents a brief journey of the careers of three important Panamanian musicians who reside in New York and who worked together. Vocalist Enid Lowe and saxophonist/flutist Walter “Gene” Jefferson worked together in Panama before meeting again in the Big Apple where they married and worked together. Frank Anderson (piano/organ) worked in Panama with various groups and served as a musical accompanist for Enid Lowe before going to New York in 1948. There he worked on Broadway shows and played jazz, calypso, and Latin music on recordings and live performances. . For these three musicians, their identity and preparation as musicians in Panama, together with their work ethic, gave them success in handling many genres of music and helped make them integral protagonists of the New York music scene.
